First Dental Visit

We look forward to welcoming new friends into our office and we hope to provide the most positive dental experience possible for all our patients.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child's first dental visit should take place when the first tooth erupts or by age one. That may seem early but establishing a dental home at a young age is a proven way to prevent problems before they start and to help build a foundation for a lifetime of good oral health. We strive to make this first visit as stress-free as possible. For patient's under age 3, this typically involves a knee-to-knee cleaning and exam in which the child is able to stay on the caregivers lap. We will provide guidance about brushing, flossing, nutrition, oral habits, and any other needs specific to your child.

Feel free to bring a stuffed animal, blanket, or any other comfort object to this visit. It will be helpful to fill out the new patient paperwork (Welcome Kit) prior to the visit to lighten your load while at the office.

No matter your child's age, our initial visit together will allow us to get to know you and your child, introduce them to our office, and provide a cleaning, exam, and radiographs if indicated. We will discuss a preventive plan of care and address any treatment needs at that time. Dr. Julie will review these things in detail with you and answer any questions that you have. We hope to partner with you in maintaining your child's oral health and wellbeing.

With few exceptions (which will always be discussed and approved first by you) parents are welcome to accompany their child throughout the dental visit. Please join in the fun but allow us to be the guide.
